Each year, Americans send thousands of tons or old computer equiptment to landfills. Most of this hardware is old, but still functional; slow, but usable. We here at Frankenputer would like to do whatever we can to REUSE some of this hardware, instead of throwing it out. We think that bringing it back to life, and giveing it to someone who cannot afford a new computer is a better option than sending it off to a landfill, where it will bleed toxic heavy metals into the ground, and eventually into our water..
You can help us (and the environment) by DONATING your old computers for reuse. Just because it won't start doesn't mean that everything inside is dead. Network cards, sound cards, modems, video cards, monitors, can all be rematch with other working hardware to create a fully functional machine, ready for a new home.
If you (or someone you know) could really use a computer, but cannot afford one, perhaps we can help you out.
Consider the following befor requesting a frankenputer:
- Frankenputers do NOT run Microsoft Windows as their Operating System. They run a FREE Linux based Operating System called Ubuntu. Ubuntu is an easy to understand, user-friendly environment that is perfect for almost any of your computer needs.
- Frankenputers are, as stated earlier on, old computers. Don't expect them to be FAST.
- We offer e-mail support for computer that we have given away. We are not many, but we will do our best to respond in a timely manner. If a frankenputer dies, we will fix it for free; or replace it with another.
- If, after recieving a Frankenputer, you decide to buy a newer computer or replace the Frankenputer in some other way, we ask that you redonate the Frankenputer so that it may, someday, find another home.
